The House

We are nestled among rows of middle-class residential terrace house in the suburb USJ11 Subang Jaya. A gated and guarded residential community with 24 Hour surveillance.

Built in 1990's, this is a doubled-storey terrace house with 4 rooms and 3 bathrooms. We created a mini wooden patio decorated with our favourite plants so you can find a quiet breathing moment here when you feel bored indoors.

A tiny backyard for edible plants are also worked on, from time to time. You are welcome to lend your green hands to help them grow.

The Neighbourhood

Located in UEP Subang Jaya (USJ), this quiet neighborhood is a major affluent residential township situated at the southern part of Subang Jaya and was established in 1988.

Subang Jaya (commonly called “Subang” by locals) is a bustling suburb and a neatly self-contained hub of higher education institutions, eateries, malls and independent retail stores approximately 25km from Kuala Lumpur city centre. A number of great restaurants, hip cafes, spas, parks, gyms, popular local food courts, mamaks, 7Elevens, launderettes and shops are within walking distance from The Hatchery Place. Enjoy Subang like a local!

Getting Around

We are 40 minute drive from KLIA 1 & 2 airport. 15min drive from Subang Airport. 25km from Kuala Lumpur city center. The nearest LRT train (Taipan station) is 19 minutes walk from The Hatchery Place. GRAB e-hailing app is commonly used by everyone to get around here.

There are buses, elevated bus rapid transit (BRT), and public light-rail transit (LRT) trains serving around the township. RapidKL runs buses that connect Kuala Lumpur to and from the township.

Food

Meals are NOT included in your stay. You prepare your own meals throughout the stay. Malaysian eateries & restaurants are very convenient, cheap and nearby (walking distance). Groceries, wholefood and fruit stores are plenty around. Food delivery services (eg. GRABFOOD, FOODPANDA, etc) are abundant too. If you’d like to plan for meal deliver services, we can suggest you our preferred healthy / vegan / vegetarian options. Plenty of local snacks like banana fritters (goreng pisang), kuih & fresh coconuts within walking distance.

The Community

You have privacy in your own room. You may or may not be staying alone in the house, depending on the coliving schedule. At times, you’ll have the whole house to yourself, sometimes, all the rooms will be occupied by other coliving peeps.

Coliving together with other like-minded conscious creatives, you get to gift yourself this rare opportunity to gather ideas, refine skills, research, experiment, grow and produce new work, at the same time design a new lifestyle that you want. At The Hatchery Place, you can dream, incubate, hatch and break free your creative ideas with the support of the community and space.

We expect our guests to understand that we’re a community and only accept people who are willing to be a part of it.

Ginger the Cat

Ginger, our resident cat, is a very special member of the The Hatchery Place family. Adopted as a stray since 2017, she loves people and attention, but can occasionally be a little demanding. Not allowed in bedrooms, she roams freely inside the house. She loves to be let out for a few minutes at the sunny porch daily. Boxes and bags are her soft spots. You are kindly asked to make sure she is safely indoors and help to take care of her during your stay here.

Your Hosts

Your hosts Kevin & Elaine are both in our 40’s, yet the people who walk through the door age ranges from 20’s to 70’s, sometimes kids and even retirees. We believe no matter the age, nationality, culture, or beliefs, we can all learn to live, work, play and grow together. We value truthful, respectful and heart-centered connections, hence our little home always welcome conscious creative souls who are interested in stretching the boundaries of themselves to include trusting strangers.

Kevin is into woodworking, UX/UI designing, drumming, cycling, coffee, dogs, vegan lifestyle and entrepreneurship. Elaine loves art & intuitive painting, spirituality, human connections, personal growth, vegetarian food, swimming & cats. We both love daily long walks and meditations to ground ourselves after a hectic day.

We both aim to create & cultivate a parallel society in this world where human minds are not driven by mainstream narrative’s fear based projections, instead directed by our own freewill & freedom of choice. Kevin & Elaine are very hands-on hosts who integrate closely with the coliving community. We are in the house very regularly to tend to the coworkers, the community, the cat and garden, and plan events. You are welcome to join our simple life activities as a family when you colive with us!

Your Active Contribution

We ask all coliving guests to help around the house to the upkeep and improvement of the shared facilities whenever possible. Contribution may include basic household tasks, cleaning, gardening or caring the cat. If you have specialist skills, we can put them to good use.

No parties or events (we as hosts are in charge of events planned here)

No smoking indoors. Smoking is only permitted outside of the house.

Please respect our neighbours by keeping the noise level down at night.

This is not a hostel or a party place, but rather a place where work, play, and rest are in balance with our lives and needs.

Make sure the main door & padlocks are locked when you leave the house / when you sleep.

Sometimes, there will be grass cutter men coming by the gate to ask if you would like the weeds pulled. Just tell them no, thank you, as we have a regular person doing that for us.

Don't bring local pungent fruit (durians) indoors. Enjoy them outdoors please :)

If you would like to invite friends over to the hangout/co-working area, please let everyone know as a courtesy & for safety reasons.

As the hosts of this space, we would like to personally greet anyone who walks through the door, and a coworking fee is applicable for non-coliving guests who work here.

  • Official shared desk hours for non-coliving guests: 11am - 7pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Please be aware that the coworking area is downstairs and our coliving rooms are upstairs.

Respecting each other and the work that we are all doing will ensure a nice productive environment where work, play, and rest can occur in a shared living space.

If you have plans to conduct online meetings for more than 2hrs at the shared space (cumulative or consecutive), kindly move to your private room thereafter so that others who are coworking shall not be disturbed for long periods.

Always keep your own valuables / stuff safe and put away if not in use, so that others can also use the table for work.
