Forum: Passion vs Purpose

Forum: Purpose vs Passion

All of us want to live our very best life. Many of us all go about finding our life Purpose, while others decide to pursue their Passions in their career and life work. Some people view Purpose and Passion as two peas in a pod, using both terms interchangeably.

However, both Purpose and Passion are distinct and different. While Purpose gives you the reason, or the why, behind what you do (i.e. “do what contributes”), Passion is about the thing you do that makes you feel good (i.e. “do what you love”.)

In this Forum, we speak to three changemakers who have found both their Purpose and Passions. They share their life examples of putting their Passion to work in full alignment with their Purpose and making impactful contributions to the community around them.

About Kevin Yeoh

KevinBuild

Kevin is a Woodworker, Educator and UI/UX Designer. As a boy, Kevin learned woodworking skills from his grandfather by watching him build homemade furniture. As an adult, he realised the importance of such practical skills towards becoming independent and self-sufficient adults. This led him on the path of becoming a self-taught woodworker and maker.

After quitting his corporate career as a UX Consultant in 2015, Kevin started his woodworking career with a focus on education. He teaches woodworking to adults and children, imparting invaluable learnings such as confidence, creativity and self-reliance.

Besides teaching woodworking to adults and children, Kevin also collaborated with various schools and learning institutions to provide woodworking coaching to their students. On top of that Kevin also designs and facilitates team building events by integrating woodwork activities for corporate companies such as REA Group, PIAM and Tokio Marine.

About Marcus Cheng

Holistic Bodyworker and Pilates Instructor

Our bodies tell the story of our lives. Some more vividly, some more subtly, but it is always a testament to our ups and downs, good and bad - our journey. In this day and age, we tend to live a lot in our minds and become walking bodies without souls. What if we were to become fully present in the body as we lead our lives? How would that change our experience of the world?

As an intuitive bodyworker and movement therapist, Marcus Cheng helps people to connect better with themselves by bringing them back to their bodies. In his bodywork sessions, he uses a combination of energy healing, vocal toning, gentle touch, trauma release and scar tissue release to help his clients be present in their bodies. In his movement therapy sessions, he invites his clients on a journey of self-exploration through movements that integrate the mind, heart, body and soul as one.

Marcus is certified in Polestar Pilates Studio and is currently exploring Slings Myofascial Training and Gyrotonic. He is also furthering his studies in visceral manipulation, neural manipulation and other healing modalities. In his free time, he loves spending time in nature and listening to music that brings people on a journey such as the works of Joe Hisaishi.
