there’s no need for perfection here. it’s about the process, the quiet rhythm of brush to canvas, and the freedom to create from a place that feels true to you. each session unfolds as its own journey, offering reflection, release, and a deeper connection to your inner world. come as you are, leave with something that only you could create.

tea & poetry

tea, poetry, and presence with shan

“tea is an act complete in its simplicity. when i drink tea, there is only me and the tea. the rest of the world dissolves…” ~ thich nhat hanh

take a step away from the rush of life and settle into a space where tea and poetry come together. this isn’t about doing, it’s about being. the warmth of the tea in your hands, the soft aroma rising, and the simple act of sipping become a meditation, a quiet invitation to pause.

as the tea settles your spirit, the poetry begins. you’re welcome to share a favorite poem, a phrase you carry in your heart, or even just listen. the ritual is simple—tea, presence, poetry, breath—and yet it has a way of bringing you back to yourself.

outdoor yoga

yoga at the park

join junn, an experienced yoga instructor with over 13 years of practice, for a rejuvenating outdoor yoga session. specializing in hatha yoga and trained in various traditions in india, junn brings a wealth of knowledge and a calming presence to her teaching. her passion for yoga goes beyond fitness, focusing on fostering balance, mindfulness, and well-being. set in the peaceful embrace of the park, this session invites you to connect with nature, your breath, and your body, making it an uplifting experience for all levels.

your days here

your days at the hatchery place

you might want to take a walk at the neighborhood park, invite others to join you for lunch at taipan, sketch some drawings or work on your own project as part of your quiet workcation. maybe explore the sights of kuala lumpur, sip coffee on the bean bag, have serendipitous deep sharing with a fellow resident, or lose yourself in a good book. you’ll also enjoy our group light hikes, park walks, game nights filled with laughter, and deep reflection evening, a mix of connection and introspection to enrich your stay. there’s no rush here, just the space to move through your day in a way that feels right for you.

stay options

how your retreat at
the hatchery place works

when you arrive, you’ll settle into a private or shared room, depending on what you’ve booked. the house is unassuming and cozy, tucked into the suburban rhythm of usj, subang jaya. it’s not a luxury retreat, but it’s a space for you to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with what matters.

your month begins with a welcome (local vegetarian) dinner hosted by us, the facilitators. It’s a chance to connect, share a meal, and settle into the retreat. it’s a warm start to what we hope will feel like your home for the time you’re here.

at the hatchery place, we embrace the slow living movement. there’s no rush here. no tight schedules or endless to-do lists. you’ll enjoy living like the local in this neighborhood, and your days are gently structured with a mix of creative workshops, some social activities and lots of personal time.

the intuitive painting session may bring moments of clarity you didn’t know you needed. the woodworking workshop gives you the joy of building something with your hands, perhaps for the very first time. the transformation game holds up a mirror to your inner self, revealing insights that may surprise you. a hike connects you with nature, and maybe even with parts of yourself you’ve been neglecting. even in the briefest of these sessions, their impact can ripple far beyond the moment, planting seeds for transformation that continue to grow long after.

these sessions are thoughtfully paced, leaving plenty of time for you to do your own thing. on workshop-free days, you might explore nearby cafes, dive into a book, linger over your meals, or catch up on a work project if needed. or maybe you’ll be inspired to start something new: a creative project, a journal, or even a quiet moment tending to the garden. who knows what the day might bring?

if you’re staying for the whole month, you’ll notice a natural rhythm to life here.

the first half is more active, filled with workshops, shared meals, and moments to connect with others. as the month goes on, the pace slows, giving you plenty of quiet days to reflect, recharge, or focus on your own projects. for those staying the month, these slower days are a gift. time to truly settle in, find your rhythm, and enjoy the simplicity of life here.

that said, it’s not all solitude. month-long residents can look forward to more hikes, park walks, and the occasional social gatherings like game nights and conversation nights—often joined by local community folks for a warm, lively connection. it’s all part of the flow, balancing moments of connection with plenty of space for you to simply be.

we’re not here to micromanage your time. the facilitators come by for scheduled sessions, and the rest of the time, the house is yours. it’s self-directed, flexible, and perfect for those who thrive on independence and flow. well, maybe we pop by every now and then—to replenish breakfast items, water the plants, do some maintenance, or just say hi and check in on everyone. sometimes we bring snacks to share when we drop by, and if it’s yoga or movement day, we might roll out our mats and move together too!

some people come here to finish a creative project, others to reconnect with themselves, and many just to hit pause on the fast pace of life. whatever your reason, the hatchery place offers you the space to move slowly, think deeply, and feel more grounded in your own rhythm. and because we are not a fancy house in a fancy location, there aren't many distractions pulling you away from your focus.

by the time you leave, you might feel lighter, clearer, and maybe even hesitant to say goodbye. that’s okay. it just means you’ve embraced the slow living we love so much here.
